Exploring the interlinkages between specialty coffee farms’ biodiversity and farmers practices in Bolivia

This external pageinterdisciplinary research project has established coffee network comprising institutions and interested stakeholders in Bolivia linked to experts from Switzerland. A key result of the collaboration between Swiss and Bolivian researchers are recommendations for sustainability standards for high-quality coffee, especially concerning biodiversity conservation and the economic viability of high-quality coffee production in Bolivia.

Agroforestry Art & Philosophy

Thanks to the Hamasil Foundation in Zürich and the UNESCO Chair on Cultural and Natural Heritage of the University of Bern, we have the possibility to approach agroforestry from a philosophy and art perspective. The aim is to find new ways of understanding and connecting with the topic that is based on an individual’s observation and evaluation capacity, thereby linking also to worldviews and emotions. Working with an artist who has specialized in trees for decades (Andreas Albert), we have formed a team of scientists who work with trees, agriculture and human geography, and practitioners e.g. from biodynamic farming, we have started studying the metamorphoses of tree forms and plant societies in forest successions.
